Building leaders on and off the field
who am i? (personal)
hey there! my name is mitch lohr and i am 26 years old. I recently got Married to the love of my life, Maddie. together we have a dog, betty, two birds and too many cats to handle. aside from coaching, i work in construction and home remodeling.
other than my wife and our pets, something that is extremely important to me is the gym. i wake up at 2:30am and I train every week day at 4am with about 20 other guys, the #4amcrew, who i consider my “family" at the old school gym in Granville, ohio. it takes discipline and accountability to train that early in the morning and that’s something that carries over into every part of my life.
in my free time i enjoy playing and watching competitive fortnite, watching any sports, and spending time with my wife.
why do i coach?
After playing and coaching for years, I have realized that there is an absence of coaching at the catching position. Growing up, I never had a coach who specifically worked with me as a catcher. Through trial and error I was able to teach myself how to catch and ultimatley fufill my dream of playing at the college level. Now it is my goal to be the mentor that I never had growing up as a catcher. I want to take the guessing out of the equation and help catchers get the results they are looking for.

I graduated from Newark Catholic High School in 2016. I was the starting varsity catcher all four years at NCHS and started in all four state championship games that the team made it to. “Newark Catholic catcher Mitch Lohr played in 32 post-season tournament games, as the team went 31-1 in that span while winning three DIV state championships and finishing as runners-up in 2014. Lohr had no passed ball in those 32 games” - OHSAA.org

I received a scholarship to play baseball at Division II Ohio Valley University in the fall of 2016. At OVU I continued where I left off in Highschool, winning over the starting spot as a freshman. I caught in all 51 games as a Freshman in 2017 but unfortunately underwent back surgery that same year. I caught 45 games as a Sophomore and 11 as a Junior. in my junior year, i took my medical redshirt and was no longer able to catch due to injury. in My redshirt junior year i played a mix of left field and first base, but my season was cut short again due to covid. in my 5th year, i played all 40 games at first base. i returned to school for my final year of elligibility only to find out in december that my college was shutting down for the spring semester. a dificult time mentally to say the least as i thought that my career may have been cut short. after a few weeks of searching, i was able to transfer to and graduate from glenville state university in may of 2022. I started in 50 games that season at first base as the team went 35-17.

I have been working individually with catchers since 2017 and have had a blast doing it. Seeing the growth and progress of youth catchers is something that I am extremely passionate about. As a coach, it is my goal to help players reach their goals. I work with each catcher differently because no one is the same. I am not the type of coach who only teaches something one way. I am a positive and open-minded coach who is open to new ideas and strategies. I have worked with catchers as young as 8 years old who have never caught before and i have worked with high level highschool catchers who have commitments to play at the ncaa D1 and D2 levels. I enjoy working with all ages and skill levels when it comes to catching.
